Roof ContractorsWisconsin weather can be tough on a house. Rain, snow, wind, hail, storms, and day after day of heat or cold can be rough on roofing materials. So if you own a building in the greater Green Bay or Brown County area, you will probably have an issue with your roof every once in a while.
If your roof is worn or damaged, water may be able to work its way in and eventually cause damage to the interior of your building. How do you know if your roof is worn or damaged? There are a few signs to look for.
Either by standing on the ground with a pair of binoculars, or standing on a sturdy ladder (we don't encourage most people to actually get up on their roofs and walk around, leave that for the professional roofer), take a good look at your building. Does the surface of the roof appear straight? Hopefully there are no dips. Are there any missing, cracked or curled shingles? Are there any areas that look dark, dirty or have anything green growing on them? Is there any shiny flashing material that looks loose or out of place? If your roof is flat, is there any area where there is standing water or stains from previous standing water?
Move around the building and examine where the downspouts empty. Look for pieces of roof covering and excessive amounts of shingle granules. These granules are what protect the main body of the shingle from the sun and the elements, which can otherwise break the shingle down eventually. If you're able to safely look inside your gutters, you can check there as well.
Check inside your attic for any discoloration on the walls or ceiling which would indicate that water had previously leaked in. And make sure that you can't see any sunlight where you shouldn't be able to see any light.
And inside your home, if you see any discoloration or indications of water on your walls or ceilings, you know you have a problem you will need to take care of soon.
A good Green Bay roofing contractor will make a thorough examination of your roof and give you their expert opinion on whether you should merely repair one section of your or completely replace it with a new one. If a roof isn't very old, a simple repair may be in order. But if the roof is older, any expense you pay to have it repaired will be lost if you have to replace it in a few years. And on some structures, there just comes a time when it isn't practical to do anything but undertake a complete reroofing project.
Choosing the right local roofing company is important because your roof's life span will be affected by the type of roofing material your roofer installs along with the quality of your roofer's installation. Proper ventilation, underlayment and flashing are essential to a long-lasting roof.
